UPSC Launches New User-Friendly Portal for Faster Exam Application

On May 28, 2025, UPSC introduced a revamped online application portal, replacing the previous One-Time Registration (OTR) system. The new portal is designed to enhance user experience and efficiency in managing exam applications. Candidates can access the portal at upsconline.nic.in. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a new online application portal to streamline the exam registration process. This initiative aims to simplify the application process for candidates appearing for various competitive exams conducted by UPSC.

Key Features of the New UPSC Application Portal

The portal is structured into four main sections:

  1. Account Creation: Candidates must create a user account to access the portal.
  2. Universal Registration: This section gathers general details applicable to all UPSC exams, which can be filled in advance.
  3. Common Application Form: Includes information common across multiple examinations, allowing candidates to update as needed.
  4. Examination Section: Displays exam notifications, application forms, and status updates. This part requires candidates to submit exam-specific details within the stipulated deadline.

This modular approach allows candidates to complete preliminary steps well before exam notifications are released, reducing last-minute rush and errors.

Mandatory Fresh Registration

All candidates are required to register afresh on the new portal, as the previous OTR system has been discontinued. Applicants must upload necessary documents, with Aadhaar being strongly recommended for seamless identity verification. The old OTR website remains available to view application forms submitted earlier, but new applications can only be submitted through the new portal.

Aadhaar Integration for Seamless Verification

UPSC advises applicants to use their Aadhaar Card as the ID document in the Universal Application for easy and seamless verification. This step ensures that the Aadhaar details serve as a permanent and common record for all examinations, enhancing the efficiency of the application process.

Application Process for Upcoming Exams

The new portal is now live and will be used for all upcoming UPSC examinations. For instance, applications for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam-II and National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy (NA) Exam-II, scheduled to be notified on May 28, 2025, will be accepted through this portal. Candidates are advised to complete their registration and application processes well before the deadlines to avoid any last-minute issues.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds many important exams every year, including the well-known Civil Services Examination. Through this exam, the commission selects officers for top roles like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS). Along with this, UPSC also conducts different tests and interviews for filling Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ posts in the central government.

With the launch of this new digital system, UPSC is trying to make the recruitment process more clear, faster, and easier for applicants. This step also supports India’s growing efforts to use digital tools for better public service and smooth governance.
